Ethiopian Airlines officially commenced construction of Bishoftu International Airport on 10 January 2026. The planned four-runway hub is designed for capacity of up to 110 million passengers annually. The reported project cost has risen to approximately US$12.5 billion as scope expanded.

The opportunity extends beyond terminal construction into airfield systems, baggage handling, utilities, roads, hospitality, logistics, cargo, urban development and specialised project leadership. Ethiopian Airlines’ July 2026 recruitment for airport-planning, baggage-handling and engineering expertise is a practical activation signal.

Capital Position

Ethiopian Airlines is expected to fund 30% and seek the balance from international lenders.
